China Eastern will become the first Chinese airline to operate flights from Shanghai to Abu Dhabi – the capital city of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The Shanghai-based airline will launch its new direct route between Shanghai Pudong Airport and Abu Dhabi from April 28. Operating four-times weekly (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday), China Eastern will use its Airbus A330 aircraft on the new route.
According to a report from China Daily, China Eastern's new Shanghai-Abu Dhabi service will be jointly operated with Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways. Etihad currently operates four weekly flights on the route.
The new route will add to China Eastern's network in the Middle East, where it currently operates flights to Riyadh (from Shanghai) and Dubai (from Shanghai, Xi'an, and Qingdao).
